Nasarawa Governor Plans Olympic-Size Stadium in Lafia

Nasarawa State Governor Engr Abdullahi Sule has announced plans to construct an Olympic-size stadium in Lafia before the end of his administration. This announcement was made during a press interaction at the grand final of the 2025 Nasarawa State Governor's Football Cup tournament held at Lafia City Stadium.

Governor Sule expressed his commitment to transforming the state's sports landscape, emphasizing the need for a new facility to alleviate the burden on the current stadium, which is overused and challenging to maintain. The new stadium is expected to host high-level sports tournaments, including events for the national team, thereby enhancing the state's reputation as a hub for sports excellence.

The governor disclosed that Karu Local Government Area defeated Wamba Local Government Area 3-0 in the final match of the tournament, with Ewa Samuel scoring twice. The tournament featured participation from thirteen local government areas and was co-hosted by the state football association and the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
