ADC Chieftain Critiques Governors for Defecting to APC

Ladan Salihu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress and former director general of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, criticized state governors for their recent defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He stated that these governors treat President Bola Tinubu as a "tin god" in their pursuit of political survival, rather than relying on the grassroots support that initially brought them to power.

Salihu questioned the logic behind the governors abandoning their original parties, suggesting that their moves are politically motivated calculations ahead of future elections. He referenced historical precedents, noting that past defections have often led to electoral failures, citing the example of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) losing elections despite having around 28 governors.

Recent defections include Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, who left the PDP in early March, and others like Abba Yusuf of Kano State and Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, who switched from the APC. Salihu emphasized that true political survival comes from grassroots support rather than party-switching.
