Ghana Declares September 21, 2026, Public Holiday

Ghana's Ministry of the Interior, led by Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has officially announced that Monday, September 21, 2026, will be observed as a statutory public holiday throughout the country to mark Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day, also referred to as Founder's Day. This holiday is dedicated to honoring the birth and enduring legacy of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who was Ghana's first President and played a pivotal role in the nation’s independence.

Nkrumah is also recognized as a significant figure in the history of Pan-Africanism across the continent. On this day, government offices, financial institutions, businesses, and schools across all sixteen regions of Ghana are expected to close as citizens participate in the national commemoration, in accordance with the laws governing public holidays in the country.
