Nigeria Declares Public Holiday for Eid ul Mawlid 2026

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Tuesday, 25th August 2026, as a public holiday in observance of Eid ul Mawlid, which celebrates the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who extended warm greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and the diaspora.

He emphasized that Eid ul Mawlid serves as a reminder of the values of compassion, humility, and service to others, which are essential for the nation at this time. Tunji-Ojo urged all Nigerians, not just Muslims, to reflect on these qualities and to engage in collective prayers for peace and unity in the country.

He also called for the celebration to be marked with restraint and mutual respect, wishing the Muslim community a joyous and peaceful Eid. The minister reaffirmed the current administration's commitment to safeguarding lives and property and maintaining peace throughout Nigeria.
