Bauchi State Declares Holiday for Local Government Elections

The Bauchi State Government has declared Monday, August 17, 2026, as a work-free day to facilitate participation in the Local Government Council elections. This announcement was made on Friday by Mukhtar Gidado, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, following the decision of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission to hold elections on that date.

The work-free day applies to civil servants and public servants at local, state, and federal levels in Bauchi State, including those in the banking sector. The government aims to ensure that eligible residents can exercise their right to vote without official duties hindering their participation.

Essential service workers are exempt from this holiday. The government urged eligible voters to participate peacefully and cooperate with security agencies and electoral officials.

This declaration aligns with a similar announcement by the Osun State Government, which declared a work-free day on August 14, 2026, ahead of its governorship election.
