Nigerian State to Pay Parents N130k for Sending Children to School, Aims to Reduce Dropout Rates

The Nigerian state government has launched a program offering parents N130,000 to enroll and keep their children, particularly girls, in school, with support from the World Bank. Dr.

Lawal Olohungbeb, the Commissioner for Human Capital Development in Kwara State, announced the initiative during a press briefing in Ilorin. The scheme targets 37,000 girls in rural and urban communities to address poverty-driven school dropouts and enhance access to education for young girls.

Additionally, the government will eliminate Parent-Teacher Association fees in public schools to remove financial barriers hindering children's education.
