Major Traffic Gridlock on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

On Friday morning, a severe traffic gridlock occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, primarily due to a fuel tanker obstructing the road near Magboro. The congestion began around 7:30 AM, as reported by users on social media, including Emperor Ridwan Abdyekeen, who tagged the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in a post.

The obstruction led to a significant backup, particularly affecting vehicles heading outbound toward Lagos, with reports indicating that traffic was nearly at a standstill near Aseese. The slow movement persisted toward Ibafo, with motorists advised to exercise patience.

The exact cause of the obstruction, whether due to a breakdown or collision, was not independently confirmed, but a Punch correspondent observed that the inbound lane toward Lagos remained largely free while the outbound lane toward Ibadan continued to experience slow movement. The FRSC and fire service were on the ground to facilitate the removal of the accident tanker and redirect traffic to normal lanes.
