Truck Accident Causes Major Traffic on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

On Wednesday, a truck accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway involving two 20-foot containers resulted in heavy traffic congestion along the Otedola Bridge corridor. According to Adebayo Taofiq, spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the incident was caused by a mechanical fault in a Mack articulating truck.

The situation deteriorated when unprofessional private recovery attempts led to the truck overturning, causing the containers to spill onto the carriageway and obstruct a section of the road. LASTMA's emergency response team was promptly deployed to the scene, where they implemented traffic control measures to safeguard motorists and facilitate the clearance of the obstruction.

The main carriageway inbound to Lagos was temporarily closed, with heavy-duty cranes and tow trucks used for recovery operations. No casualties were reported, and traffic flow was restored after the successful clearance of the overturned truck.

LASTMA's Olalekan Bakar Oki emphasized the agency's commitment to ensuring road safety and preserving infrastructure.
