Civil Society Urges INEC, EFCC to Avoid Political Witch Hunts

A civil society organization has issued a warning to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the judiciary regarding the ongoing leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC). During a conference held in Abuja, Hon. Balarab Rufai accused the EFCC of selectively targeting opposition leaders, citing the case of former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, as an example of alleged media trials designed to undermine opposition figures.

Rufai called for an immediate end to what he described as retaliatory persecution and challenged Prof. Joash Amupitan, who leads INEC, to maintain neutrality, asserting that INEC should not act as a subsidiary of any political party. The youth leader emphasized the necessity for a vibrant opposition in Nigeria, advocating for leaders whose loyalty lies with the Nigerian Constitution rather than political affiliations.
