Democracy Watch Defends Ribadu's Security Record Against Criticism

Democracy Watch, represented by its Director of Strategic Communications Tunji Bamidel, countered Ishola Williams' criticism of Nuhu Ribadu's qualifications for the role of National Security Adviser (NSA). Williams, in a March 15, 2026 interview, suggested that Nigeria's security leadership required a complete overhaul, labeling Ribadu's experience as inadequate.

Bamidel's statement rejected this view, emphasizing Ribadu's extensive qualifications, including his background as a former law enforcement officer and his notable achievements in combating corruption as the head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Ribadu's educational credentials, including a law degree from Ahmadu Bello University and a master's degree, further support his suitability for the NSA role.

Under Ribadu's leadership, significant strides were made in Nigeria's security, including the successful rescue of 11,000 hostages and the implementation of a new forest security strategy. The group stressed the importance of collaboration among security agencies and highlighted Ribadu's proactive approach to intelligence and technology in addressing security challenges.
