NCAPT Challenges SERAP's N26.9bn Missing Funds Claim

The Northern Coalition for Accountability and Public Trust (NCAPT), represented by Executive Director Amb Abubakar Yusuf Yaro, has refuted the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP)'s claim regarding N26.9 billion allegedly missing from the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF). NCAPT described SERAP's assertion as exaggerated and lacking critical context.

They pointed out that the average annual allocation to USPF during the review period was N7.5 billion, raising questions about how such a significant amount could be unaccounted for. NCAPT clarified that the N13.8 billion referenced relates to operational surplus managed by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and that USPF did not retain these funds.

They urged SERAP to provide explanations for their claims and emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in public finance, advocating for an independent review of the documents related to the allegations.
