Lagos AG Urged to Investigate Child Abuse Case Mishandling

The Advoc Children Vulner Person Network (ACVPN) has formally petitioned Lagos State Attorney General, Lawal Pedro, demanding an urgent investigation into the alleged mishandling of several child sexual abuse cases by prosecutors. The group expressed deep concern over actions taken by a prosecutor at Magistrate Court 1 in Agbowa, Ikorodu, which they claim undermine justice for vulnerable victims.

They highlighted a specific case involving a man accused of sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl, who was reportedly released without informing the complainant, raising serious questions about transparency and adherence to due process. The group also cited another case involving a 44-year-old man accused of defiling and impregnating his stepdaughter in Ikotun, alleging that community leaders pressured the victim's family to withdraw the case.

The ACVPN warned that these developments could erode public trust in the justice system and embolden perpetrators of sexual violence against children, urging immediate intervention to protect victims and ensure accountability.
