Conflicting Reports in Lagos Child Abuse Case Raise Concerns

The child abuse case involving a three-year-old girl in Lagos has sparked controversy due to conflicting medical reports from two health facilities. The case, initially reported in December 2025, involves a market trader accused of assaulting the minor.

The police in Ejigbo Division transferred the case to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Command for further investigation. Early medical findings from Mirabel Centre indicated that the child suffered from an infection.

However, a subsequent examination at a facility in Igando revealed injuries consistent with sexual penetration. The child's mother, Mr.

Ogechi Okoy, has expressed concerns about the handling of the case, alleging intimidation and physical assault from individuals believed to be connected to the suspect, as well as pressure to withdraw the case. Advocacy group AMPEF became involved after receiving a distress call in March 2026, observing the mother and child's deteriorating condition.

The group has questioned the accuracy of the initial medical assessments and called for a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the allegations of abuse.
