Gumi Advocates Negotiation to Tackle Nigeria's Insecurity

In a Facebook post on Thursday, controversial Islamic cleric Gumi expressed his views on addressing Nigeria's insecurity challenges. He insisted that negotiating with bandits and terrorists remains a viable solution.

Gumi lamented the country's decline due to neglect of disadvantaged populations, which has created deep socio-economic inequities, leaving youth vulnerable to manipulation by external forces seeking to destabilize the nation. He criticized the widening gap between the rich and poor, suggesting that young people are becoming ready to engage in violence as foot soldiers for those exploiting Nigeria's resources.

Gumi expressed displeasure with the political class for their largely unresponsive stance on the situation and noted that the intellectual class is held hostage, struggling to exist. He maintained that his 2021 approach of attempting to reintegrate violent elements into society is crucial for addressing the insecurity predicament.
