Gunmen Kill Three Mourners, Kidnap Two in Benue Attack

On Saturday night, gunmen attacked mourners returning from a burial in Sati Ikov, Ushongo Local Government Area, Benue State, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and the kidnapping of two others. The deceased were identified as Bem Msughter, Mbakyombo Daav Ikov, Aondo Chia Mbamegh Daa Ikov, and Terwas Mbakyor Daav Ikov.

The attack has been condemned by Simon Gabo, a lawmaker representing Ushongo Constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly, who highlighted the increasing violence from local militia in the area. Gabo noted that this incident is part of a troubling trend, with attacks occurring every two weeks, and emphasized the need for improved security measures.

The Benue State Police Command, represented by spokesperson Udem Edet, was unavailable for comment at the time of the report. The situation has heightened fears among residents amid a rise in insecurity across the state.
