Hagher and ICPC Chair Advocate Cultural Shift Against Corruption

At the ninth edition of the Governance and Integrity Award held at the Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, Prof. Iyorwuese Hagher, a former minister of State for Power and Steel, and Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN), chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), advocated for a cultural shift in Nigeria's approach to combating corruption. Hagher, who chaired the event, argued that the fight against corruption should not only focus on laws and prosecutions but also address the moral implications of corrupt practices.

He stated that integrity must be made honorable and corruption culturally shameful, urging Nigerians to combat corruption with love, truth, and justice. He described corruption as a form of violence and emphasized the need for integrity to be taught in various societal institutions.

Representing Dr. Aliyu, Kupolati Kayode highlighted that integrity is foundational for national development and that relying solely on legal measures would not suffice in eradicating corruption.
