Hamzat Clears APC Screening for Lagos Governorship Race

Hamzat, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, has successfully passed the APC screening committee, allowing him to participate in the governorship primaries scheduled for the 2027 elections. He appeared before the screening committee on Saturday, May 9, in Abuja, and expressed delight at receiving clearance to move forward in the electoral process.

Hamzat conveyed confidence in his readiness to lead Lagos to greater heights. Meanwhile, tensions are emerging within the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), which is the platform for governors elected under the APC.

The forum's leadership is reportedly divided, with new Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma insisting on remaining in charge alongside Kaduna State Deputy Governor Uba Sani. A faction within the forum is reportedly aligning behind Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, leading to a lack of statements from either faction as tensions build regarding internal leadership control ahead of the 2027 elections.
