CBN Urges Nigerians to Handle Naira with Care in Kano

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has called on Nigerians, especially traders, to handle the naira with care, pride, and dignity to prolong its lifespan and minimize the costs of replacing soiled and mutilated notes. Dr Adedeji Adetona, Director of Currency Operations and Branch Management, conveyed this message during a roadshow and public awareness campaign at Galadima Market in Kano, represented by Mr Ibrahim Yahya, Deputy Director of the Currency Operations Department.

Adetona highlighted the naira as a symbol of Nigeria’s sovereignty and national pride, urging careful handling to save resources spent on replacing damaged currency. The campaign, which began at Galadima Market, aims to reach other markets across Kano, recognizing the strategic importance of the region in commerce.

Adetona noted that traders frequently handle cash and play a crucial role in promoting responsible currency management, which is essential for protecting the naira.
