Hannatu Musawa Mourns Nollywood Icon Taiwo Hassan

Hannatu Musawa, the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, expressed her condolences following the death of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who died on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66. Musawa's tribute, released by her Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr Nneka Anibeze, described Ogogo as a proud voice of Yoruba storytelling and a guardian of Nigerian cultural identity.

He had been battling stage-four cancer, and his family had previously disclosed that doctors ruled out further chemotherapy due to the advanced nature of his condition. Musawa emphasized Ogogo's significant contributions to Yoruba culture and cinema, noting that his work reached millions both within Nigeria and beyond.

She extended her condolences to Ogogo's family, colleagues, fans, and the people of Ogun State. Ogogo's career spanned several decades, and he was recognized for his roles in popular Yoruba productions, helping to shape the evolution of Yoruba cinema.
