Cross River Restricts Movement of 10 with COVID-19 Symptoms

On April 21, 2026, the Cross River government identified 10 individuals showing symptoms of COVID-19 after they had contact with a Chinese national diagnosed with the virus. Dr.

Inyang Ekpenyong, the state epidemiologist, announced the restrictions on their movement to prevent further spread of the virus. The contact tracing exercise was conducted in Akamkpa Local Government Area, where the individuals were identified.

These symptomatic individuals have been restricted to their homes while receiving treatment at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH). Dr.

Ekpenyong urged the public to adhere to COVID-19 protocols, including the use of hand sanitizers and face masks, stressing that the pandemic has not been completely eradicated since it first emerged six years ago. Dr.

Henri Egb Ayuk, the state's health commissioner, reiterated the government's commitment to containing the virus and ensuring public safety.
