New COVID-19 Case Confirmed in Cross River State

Cross River State has reported a fresh case of COVID-19, confirmed by the state government during a press briefing on Tuesday. The index case involves a 53-year-old Chinese national who arrived in Nigeria on March 17 and later developed symptoms consistent with COVID-19.

Henri Ayuk, the state commissioner for health, noted that the patient's condition has deteriorated, prompting a transfer to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for further management. Ayuk reassured residents that the state's health system is equipped to handle the outbreak and emphasized the importance of remaining calm.

Inyang Ekpenyong, the state epidemiologist, stated that contact tracing is underway for individuals who may have been in contact with the patient. The last confirmed case in the state was recorded in 2022.

Health officials, including a representative from the World Health Organization, warned that COVID-19 remains a public health concern and urged for renewed vigilance among health authorities to prevent further spread.
