A COVID-19 scare has gripped Cross River State, Nigeria, following the confirmation of a suspected case. Dr.

Henri Egb Ayuk, the state commissioner for health, reported that the patient, who arrived in Nigeria via Lagos on March 17, 2026, exhibited symptoms that were first detected at a local clinic. The case was immediately referred to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) under isolation protocols.

The state government has initiated contact tracing and emergency public health measures to prevent potential spread. Dr.
