Protests Erupt at INEC Headquarters Over ADC Delisting

On Thursday, significant tension arose at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja after the commission announced the delisting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This decision reportedly triggered protests, with around 2,000 demonstrators gathering near the facility shortly after the announcement.

The protesters, including members of the ADC and supporters of the Obidi movement, planned to occupy the road leading to INEC's headquarters, prompting the deployment of a large security presence, including the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Department of State Services (DSS). The protests followed INEC's removal of names such as David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its official portal.

Nafiu Bala Gomb is seeking a court declaration to recognize the faction he leads as the legitimate national chairman of the ADC. INEC noted that it would not monitor any congress organized by the group until the legal disputes are resolved, and security operations remain in place to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
