Harvard Experts Support Local Diagnostic Kit Production in Nigeria

Wirth, endorsed the local production of diagnostic kits in Nigeria during a visit to the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and Troment Biotechnology. The delegation, which included 85 medical professionals, scientists, and policymakers, toured the facility and discussed plans to manufacture diagnostic kits for malaria, hepatitis B, C, HIV, typhoid, syphilis, and COVID-19.

Selim Hani, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Troment Biotechnology, emphasized the importance of establishing a partnership with NASENI to support local manufacturing of healthcare technology. The factory is expected to be completed within 18 months, with a target of producing 600 million diagnostic kits annually, thereby reducing Nigeria's dependence on imported medical diagnostics.

Dr. Engin Narinc described the facility as the first fully localized rapid diagnostic test kit production facility in Africa.
