“He saved Nigeria in 2016” – Shehu Sani tells Tinubu to honour Japanese billionaire in Tokyo

Former Senator Shehu Sani has urged President Bola Tinubu to publicly acknowledge and appreciate Japanese billionaire Katsuya Takasu for his role in saving Nigeria during the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. Sani recounted how Takasu came to the rescue of the Nigerian football team, who were stranded in Atlanta due to financial constraints.

Takasu flew from Tokyo to cover the team's flight expenses and even provided a bonus. Despite this generous gesture, Sani noted that Takasu was never formally appreciated by the Nigerian government.

He urged President Tinubu, who is currently on an official visit to Japan, to seek out the philanthropist and thank him while he is still alive. Sani emphasized that Takasu's act of generosity saved Nigeria from embarrassment and should be properly acknowledged.
