FG Urges Governors to Support NYSC Growth and Welfare

During the 53rd anniversary lecture of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) held in Abuja, the Federal Government called on state governors to assist in the growth of the NYSC within their states. The appeal was made by Olakunle Nafiu, the Director General of NYSC, who emphasized the importance of providing facilities for the welfare and security of corps members.

Nafiu highlighted the contributions of the NYSC over five decades and urged the public to support the establishment of a trust fund aimed at expanding the scheme's scope in skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development. He noted that the NYSC has faced challenges, including insecurity, which has made the service less attractive to graduates.

Nafiu's address included a call for enhanced protection of corps members to prevent disappointment in the scheme. Emeka Mgbemena, the Director of Media for NYSC, also acknowledged the scheme's resilience through difficult times.
