Herbert Wigwe's Legacy: Banking and Philanthropy at 60

Dr. Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe, the late Co-Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank and later Access Holdings, would have celebrated his 60th birthday today.

He is recognized for his significant contributions to the banking sector, transforming Access Bank into a major African financial institution with operations across multiple countries. Wigwe's vision extended beyond banking; he was dedicated to philanthropy, establishing The HOW Foundation in 2016 to support education, healthcare, and youth development initiatives.

His foundation provided educational support for disadvantaged children, medical scholarships, and rehabilitated primary healthcare centers in Rivers State. Wigwe also founded Wigwe University, reflecting his belief in education's transformative power.

His legacy continues to influence various sectors in Nigeria, as he was a mentor and advocate for creating opportunities for disadvantaged communities. Two years after his passing, his impact remains evident through the institutions he built and the lives he touched.
