Herbert Wigwe's Legacy in Banking and Education

Dr. Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe, who would have turned 60 today, was a renowned banker, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, known for his transformative role at Access Bank and Access Holdings.

He aimed to create a competitive African financial institution and contributed to national development through his leadership as Chairman of the Bankers’ Committee. Wigwe established The HOW Foundation in 2016, focusing on education, healthcare, and youth development, including support for disadvantaged children and the rehabilitation of primary healthcare centers in Rivers State.

His vision extended to Wigwe University, which received its operating license in 2023, aiming to produce confident and entrepreneurial young Africans. Despite his passing before the university's opening, it welcomed its first students, continuing his legacy.

Wigwe also initiated the Fearless Leadership Series and the Wigwe Venture Lab, encouraging young Nigerians to embrace leadership and innovation.
