Tunji Disu's Challenges as New IGP of Nigeria

Tunji Disu, the newly appointed Inspector General of Police in Nigeria, is confronted with the daunting task of restoring public confidence in the Nigerian Police Force, which has been plagued by issues of corruption, misconduct, and a lack of accountability. President Bola Tinubu has charged Disu with the responsibility of implementing reforms aimed at improving the police's image and operational effectiveness.

Disu, born in 1966 and enlisted in 1992, has a background in various operational commands, including leading the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos. He is expected to address the longstanding grievances against the police, including allegations of extrajudicial killings and extortion.

The President emphasized the need for a disciplined and professional police force, urging Disu to adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and impunity. The upcoming 2027 elections will further test the police's neutrality and effectiveness, as public trust remains fragile.
