Court Sets May 18 for Trial of Man Over Coup Allegations

The Federal High Court in Abuja has set May 18, 2025, for the trial of Innoc Chukwuma, who is accused of calling for a military overthrow of the government of President Bola Tinubu via a social media post. The presiding judge, Justice Joyc Abdulmalik, adjourned the case after the prosecution, represented by David Kasw, requested more time to review the case file.

The matter was recently assigned to the current court following its transfer from the Department of State Services. Chukwuma has been charged under the title "Federal Republic of Nigeria vs.

Innoc Chukwuemeka Onukwum," with the charge number FHc ABJ CR 610 2025. The allegations state that Chukwuma's post was capable of inciting a military takeover in Nigeria.

The Department of State Services reportedly traced the social media operation to Oyigbo in Port Harcourt.
