Sheikh Jingir Advocates Muslim-Muslim Ticket for 2027

Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahya Jingir has called for the continued adoption of Muslim-Muslim presidential tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections, praising President Bola Tinubu for his support of this arrangement during the 2023 elections. Jingir made these remarks at an event attended by All Progressives Congress governors, including Abba Yusuf of Kano and Umar Namadi of Jigawa State.

He expressed his strong advocacy for the Muslim-Muslim ticket, questioning the opposition from Christians and other religious groups. Jingir urged attendees to prepare for the elections by obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards and claimed that previous electoral defeats of opponents were due to his stance on the Muslim-Muslim ticket.

His comments have drawn criticism on social media for being divisive in Nigeria's multi-religious society. In response, Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to South Africa, Femi Fani-Kayode, condemned Jingir's remarks as highly provocative.
