Nigeria's Minister Doro Commits to Elderly Welfare Initiatives

On a recent visit to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard M.

Doro reaffirmed the Nigerian government's commitment to enhancing the welfare of older persons and strengthening social protection systems. This engagement followed a courtesy visit from members of the Coalition of Societies for the Rights of Older Persons in Nigeria (COSROPIN), led by Senator Dr.

Ez D. Ajoku.

Dr. Doro assured the delegation that their requests and recommendations would be carefully reviewed.

He discussed ongoing efforts to collaborate with international partners to improve care for older persons, particularly in areas requiring special attention, such as dementia. He proposed enhancing caregiver training and exploring options for extending healthcare support to retired civil servants.

Dr. Doro emphasized the importance of health insurance for vulnerable older persons and pledged to support advocacy initiatives aimed at reforming elderly care across the country.

The meeting underscored the ministry's commitment to addressing the concerns of older citizens in line with the federal government's humanitarian agenda.
