El-Rufai Sues ICPC for N1 Billion Over Home Search

Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, has initiated a N1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) following an alleged unlawful search of his residence in Abuja. The suit, filed on February 20, 2026, at the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, challenges a search warrant issued on February 4 by the Chief Magistrate of the FCT Magistrate Court.

El-Rufai's counsel, Oluwol Iyamu (SAN), argues that the warrant was invalid due to lack of specificity and failure to establish probable cause. The search, conducted on February 19 at his residence on Mambilla Street, allegedly violated his constitutional rights, including dignity, liberty, and privacy.

El-Rufai is demanding the return of seized items and claims damages for emotional distress and reputational harm, including N300 million for compensatory damages and N400 million in exemplary damages.
