El-Rufai Sues ICPC for ₦1bn Over Abuja Home Search

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has initiated a ₦1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) regarding an alleged unlawful search of his residence in Abuja. The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/345/2026, was filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja on February 20, 2026, by his counsel, Oluwol Iyamu, SAN.

El-Rufai is contesting the validity of a search warrant issued on February 4, 2026, by the Chief Magistrate of the FCT Magistrate Court. He argues that the warrant is null and void due to lack of particularity, material drafting errors, ambiguity, overbreadth, and absence of probable cause, constituting an unlawful and unreasonable search that violates his fundamental rights as outlined in sections 34, 35, 36, and 37 of the Constitution.

El-Rufai seeks seven reliefs, including a declaration that the search conducted on February 19, 2026, at his residence, amounted to a gross violation of his fundamental rights.
