Amaechi's Influence Leads to Sacking of NPA Boss, Alleges Garba Shehu

Garba Shehu disclosed that Rotimi Amaechi, the former Minister of Transportation, recommended the suspension of Hadiza Bala Usman as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to President Buhari. This recommendation was based on allegations that Bala Usman failed to remit $165 billion in operational surplus to the federal government.

Despite Bala Usman being cleared by an administrative panel, Buhari acted on Amaechi's advice. Bala Usman, in turn, accused Amaechi of attempting to remove her over contract disagreements, including demands for contract extensions without due process.

She also alleged that Amaechi sought to influence the removal of two major contracts at the NPA. The matter was investigated by an administrative panel to probe allegations of mismanagement.
