Army Loses Commanding Officer and Six Soldiers in Borno

On April 12, 2026, a tragic incident occurred in Borno State, where a commanding officer, Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah, and six other soldiers were killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) during an engagement with insurgents from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). The attack took place in the Monguno area as troops from the Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai repelled an attempt by insurgents to infiltrate military positions.

Following the initial confrontation, Brigadier General Braimah moved towards the frontline to assess the situation when the IED detonated, resulting in severe damage to his vehicle and the fatalities.
