AbdulRazaq Revives Kwara State's Sporting Heritage

Since taking office in May 2019, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has significantly revitalized the state's sports sector, which had been in decline. Under his leadership, Kwara United won the President Federation Cup on June 28, 2025, marking the club's first major trophy since 1967.

The governor rewarded players with ₦5 million each and plots of land in Kwara Smart City, while also clearing a ₦201 million debt owed to players and coaches. AbdulRazaq's administration has focused on grassroots development, reviving the Kwara State Sports Festival after fifteen years, and establishing the Kwara Football Academy as a national talent hub.

The rehabilitation of the Pa Gabriel Ladipo Indoor Sports Hall and the construction of various sports facilities, including a squash complex and an Olympic-size swimming pool, further demonstrate his commitment to sports development in the state.
