AbdulRazaq's Education Reform Transforms Kwara State Schools

Since taking office in 2019, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has initiated significant reforms in Kwara State's education sector, addressing systemic challenges such as outstanding counterpart funding obligations that hindered access to Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) matching grants. His administration cleared these obligations, unlocking federal intervention funds for public school rehabilitation.

Key reforms include merit-based Computer-Based Testing recruitment, hiring thousands of qualified teachers, and implementing the new national minimum wage. To alleviate financial burdens on families, AbdulRazaq eliminated unofficial school levies and introduced direct running grants for school maintenance.

The flagship initiative, KwaraLEARN, aims to improve foundational literacy and numeracy through structured lesson plans, teacher training, and data-driven assessments. By 2023, over 6,000 teachers were trained, and significant resources were distributed across 1,578 primary schools.

The administration has committed ₦20 billion for infrastructure upgrades by 2025 and has enhanced support for special needs education. These efforts have earned recognition from the Leadership Newspaper and the Nigeria Union of Teachers for their impact on education quality and teacher welfare.
