How N/Assembly will treat proposals for states creation – Senate spokesman

The Senate spokesperson discussed the complex process of state creation, emphasizing the need for thorough auditing of demographic, geographical, and historical data, as well as comprehensive public hearings. The 10th National Assembly is reviewing the 1999 Constitution to address the creation of additional states, with 42 proposals initially submitted and later increased to 61.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio confirmed the proposals in July, with Senator Adaramodu noting that the Senate will recommend state creation after a thorough assessment of relevant factors. The Constitution Review Committee, led by Deputy Senate President Senator Jibrin Barau, will assess and filter the proposals before preparing a report for the Senate and the House of Representatives to hold a comprehensive public hearing.

Adaramodu also highlighted the importance of ensuring the completion of ongoing projects in the 2024 budget cycle to avoid funding loss.
