Senate confirms 61 proposals for state creation

The Senate has confirmed 61 proposals for state creation across the country, with none passing the legislative process yet. Senator Yemi Adaramodu, the Spokesman for the 10th National Assembly, revealed that the proposals came from all six geopolitical zones.

He emphasized that state creation is a complex matter that requires auditing of demographic, geographic, and historical data, as well as comprehensive public hearings. Adaramodu stated that the Senate cannot unilaterally create a state without going through the constitutional review process and considering input from Nigerians.

The proposals are currently being reviewed by the Constitutional Review Committee, and a report will be prepared for a comprehensive public hearing involving stakeholders. Adaramodu highlighted the importance of careful consideration and validation of new states to ensure the process is transparent and inclusive.
