Nigeria Grants New Oil Exploration Licenses to Boost Production

New exploration licenses granted in Nigeria's oil sector aim to boost production and enhance energy security. TotalEnergies and South Atlantic Petroleum secure licenses in the Deepwater West Delta basin, with TotalEnergies owning 80% and Sapetro 20%.

The licenses, held by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, allow for offshore exploration to uncover potential oil fields. Once exploration is complete, the licenses will be converted to mining licenses for oil and gas extraction.

The Petroleum Sharing Contracts Commission emphasizes the importance of these licenses in unlocking Nigeria's untapped geological potential, expanding reserves, and strengthening energy security through standardized agreements.
