Swiss Govt Initiative Boosts Women's Role in Nigerian Politics Ahead of 2023 Elections

The Swiss government is supporting women's inclusion in Nigerian politics ahead of the 2023 general elections. Despite women constituting nearly half of Nigeria's population, their political representation remains low.

Currently, only 15% of legislators in the National Assembly are women. To address this, a project funded by the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and the Shehu Musa Yar'Adua Foundation aims to dismantle barriers hindering Nigerian women from political power.

The initiative, titled "Promoting Ef," seeks to increase women's participation and influence in politics to achieve a more balanced representation in governance.
