Tinubu Government Reforms Nigeria's Basic Education System

The Tinubu administration is driving significant reforms in Nigeria's basic education system, marking a pivotal shift towards coordinated, system-wide transformation. Under the leadership of Dr.

Maruf Tunji Alausa at the Federal Ministry of Education, the government aims to improve access, learning quality, and financial outcomes. The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), led by Aisha Garba, is central to these reforms, which include a strategic blueprint for 2025-2031 that focuses on four priorities: improving learning quality, expanding access, strengthening financial management, and enhancing institutional capacity.

The administration acknowledges existing challenges, such as millions of out-of-school children and underutilized funds, and is committed to addressing these through comprehensive diagnostics and targeted actions. Key initiatives involve revising the curriculum to include digital literacy and entrepreneurship, training teachers, and expanding digital learning environments.
