Baba-Ahmed Backs Obi in 2023 Due to Politician Rejections

Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the former vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party, revealed that he supported Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential election out of sympathy after three prominent politicians declined to align with Obi. In an interview, Baba-Ahmed explained that the political relationship between Obi and himself is often misunderstood.

He disclosed that Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, approached three major political figures to join his movement but faced rejection, which deeply disappointed Baba-Ahmed. He felt compelled to accept the vice presidential slot to support Obi's candidacy.

Baba-Ahmed also mentioned that he does not feel obligated to follow Obi's political decisions, especially with Obi's recent announcement to run as the flagbearer for the Nigeria Democratic Congress in the 2027 elections. He emphasized that his support for Obi was a voluntary sacrifice made in the interest of the country and that he remains independent of Obi's political choices.
