New Power Minister Tegbe Addresses Power Supply Challenges

The new Power Minister, Tegbe, addressed the Nigerian Senate on Wednesday, stating he cannot guarantee 24-hour power supply for Nigerians. He acknowledged the long-standing issues within the power sector, including unstable supply, inaccurate billing, and a lack of consumer trust.

Tegbe emphasized the importance of setting realistic expectations and focusing on gradual, visible improvements that Nigerians can notice in a short time. He pointed out that Nigeria has a significant meter gap of 44 percent, although recent government efforts have led to the distribution of millions of meters.

Tegbe noted that the sector requires firm reforms to prevent constant breakdowns and that the current system failures are linked to deeper structural problems. He assured that progress would be measurable within months rather than years and warned that the interests benefiting from the current failures would be addressed through necessary reforms.
