70-Year-Old Man Seeks Divorce Over Wife's Violence

Omodele, a 70-year-old man, has approached the Grade A Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking to dissolve his nearly 30-year marriage to Irede. He accuses her of being troublesome, violent, and destructive, alleging that her actions have led to public humiliation and disaffection within his family.

Omodele claims that Irede has threatened him with a knife on two occasions and has made derogatory claims about his sexual capability. He recounted an incident during his 70th birthday celebration where she fought him, tore his clothes, and destroyed his cake.

Omodele expressed that he has endured enough humiliation and fears for his safety, requesting the court to dissolve their marriage and restrain Irede from threatening him. Irede has consented to the divorce but countered with allegations of neglect and physical abuse from Omodele, claiming he failed to provide adequate support and was morally bankrupt, even accusing him of exchanging nude pictures with a woman on Facebook.
