“I Didn’t Take This Job for the Money” – Super Eagles Coach Eric Chelle Says

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle, who took on the role in January after leaving Algerian side MC Oran, has stated that he did not accept the position for the financial benefits. Chelle reportedly earns a monthly salary, but he emphasized that his decision was driven by ambition rather than money.

In a conversation with Nigerian journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, Chelle expressed his commitment to the team and his desire to succeed in the upcoming 2024 CHAN tournament in Tanzania. Despite facing criticism for Nigeria's disappointing performance in the 2024 African Nations Championship, where they were eliminated in the group stage, Chelle remains focused on the team's future.

He highlighted the challenges of football management and the limited communication he has had with the Nigeria Football Federation leadership since taking charge. Looking ahead, Chelle is preparing for the World Cup qualifiers in September and the Africa Cup of Nations in December 2025.
