Adeyeye Defends Tinubu's Vacation but Critiques Timing

Former Senator Olusola Adeyeye defended President Bola Tinubu’s prolonged stay outside Nigeria, describing it as a working vacation. However, he expressed disagreement with both Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima being abroad at the same time.

Adeyeye, who represented Osun Central, spoke amid criticism of Tinubu’s absence and the administration's economic management. The Presidency announced on 30 August that Tinubu would take a three-week annual leave in Europe, starting in London.

Adeyeye stated that while it is not unusual for a President to take a working vacation, having both the President and Vice-President out simultaneously was not advisable. He suggested that Tinubu could have delegated responsibilities to other officials.

The Presidency confirmed that Tinubu continued to direct government affairs during his trip and that Shettima represented him at some events. Adeyeye dismissed claims that Tinubu's absence indicated disconnection from governance, citing ongoing activities during the trip.
