Mourinho Confused by Real Madrid's Loss to Real Betis
On September 4, Real Madrid suffered a 1-0 defeat to Real Betis in a La Liga match at La Cartuja, marking the first loss of the season under coach José Mourinho. Despite Madrid's dominance and multiple scoring opportunities, Betis secured the win with a goal from Troy Parrott in the 81st minute, following a rebound from a saved header by Thibaut Courtois.
Real Madrid had a chance to equalize when Vinicius Junior was fouled in the penalty area, but Kylian Mbappe's penalty was saved by Betis goalkeeper Alvaro Valles. Mourinho expressed his confusion over the loss, stating, “Sometimes you lose and don’t know why or how to explain it,” while praising his team's performance and effort.
The defeat left both Real Madrid and Real Betis with nine points after four matches.
