Peter Obi Denies Claims on Military Salary Increase

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), issued a statement denying reports that he requested members of the Nigerian military to reject any salary increase until after the 2027 general election. He described the claims as false and misleading, asserting that they misrepresented his stance on the welfare of security personnel.

Obi clarified that he has consistently advocated for improved welfare, adequate equipment, and better protection for soldiers, particularly those in challenging conditions. He expressed profound respect for the military and highlighted concerns about their safety, referencing incidents where soldiers lost their lives due to delayed rescue efforts during operations against insurgents.

Obi pledged that if elected President, the welfare and operational capacity of military personnel would be a priority. He urged Nigerians to dismiss the misleading report and reaffirmed his commitment to a clear vision for a secure and prosperous Nigeria.
